What's that you say? I still have 3-4 months to wait?!
Okay, I guess I better just suck it up then and try to enjoy winter for what it is. At least it gives me lots of down time (hibernation time) to cook up big plans for the upcoming season. I'm always making lists, drawing diagrams, and buggin' Kuntry Boy to listen to my ideas.
And every once in awhile, when there's a break in the weather, I get to go out and get in some good quality bonding time with my favorite pig...er, I mean horse. But you can see how I might get confused right?

I'm definitely looking forward to getting this place a little more horse friendly, which includes mud abatement (if there's any such thing in the great Pacific NW) and lots and lots and lots of fencing to put in this spring. Here, Caspian is grazing in our front pasture, but as you can see I have to keep him on a long line due to our lack of fencing in this pasture. It's kinda fun though. I go out with my floral magazines and hold the line while he chows down as much as he possibly can. Kickin' back with my hoss on a Sunday afternoon...with no rain coming down...can't complain about that! :)

Now that looks like a happy horse. Very nice photo!
ReplyDeleteI know, when is spring going to get here!!! I don't think I can wait another 4 months!! Really! I am so seriously thinking I have to move out of this state, every winter I say that.
ReplyDeleteAnd the pasture mud? It is so out of control, I have lakes in my pastures!! LAKES! We also need to seriously do something about the mud, have to! But it always comes down to a money issue, with me being unemployed for so long, just wasn't going to happen this year. I also need to get some footing in my arena, but that might get put on hold, again, to make the pasture's less muddy for next winter! Never ending I tell ya!!
Caspian looks so pretty out there grazing!! That will be so nice fencing that area in for a pasture!
Sounds perfect. I love spending time with my hoss as well :-)
ReplyDeleteHey how's the business going??? I'm curious about diagrams etc???
How much is Caspian loving winter...he has put on so much weight..wow!!! looking good. Don't they say we all put on a few kilo's over winter hehehe...Cisco always looks like he is in a good paddock
So there with ya! I'm ready for spring! Our paddocks are lakes and the pasture is too soft to even turn out in right now. One of these days we'll get some arena footing and fencing so we can at least use that as turn out in the winter, but for right now, the ponies just have to deal with it, they've got blankies. Thank god! I'd never ride if I had to brush dirt off them all the time! lol
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to see the work you get done this year at your place, last year you certainly kicked some booty!
this time of year is difficult for most of us! for us it is the snow, no turnout for my ponies for two weeks now! this is the second year that they have had to stay in like this...your field looks nice and green though for this time of year!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you! I can't wait for spring to be here! Luckily, here on MT we've been having very mild temps up in the 40's compared to last weeks -20 and -30's, this is shorts and t-shirt weather! The seed and gardening catalogs are starting to roll in now and thata definitely not helping the situation either :) Thanks for coming over to my blog. I look forward to keeping up with yours. Its nice to "meet" young country gals from all over. I wanted to recommend the book "Better Basics for the Home: Simple Solutions for Less Toxic Living" Its all sorts of homemade recipes for things around the house. It covers household cleaners, soaps, lotions, skin care, animal care and tons of other things you can make instead of buying. Take Care!
ReplyDeleteI tried to leave a comment the other day but was having Internet issues...finally think they are gone. Love that you let Caspian hand graze...I bet he loves it. I know My Boy does. It spoils him rotten though, now every time he walks by the lawn he thinks he can start trotting in anticipation of getting to eat! BAD PONY! :) I can't wait for spring and summer riding....have pretty much given up this winter. Good thing my horse doesn't need any training, or I'd be up a creek!
